The tropical Paradise of the Chuuk Lagoon was transformed into hell at the end of the Second World War, when the Americans destroyed the Japanese naval base in the atoll. Today, wrecks are an attraction for divers.
DIVING AMONG WRECKS.
The waters of the Chuuk Lagoon, called the underwater museum, are considered one of the best diving spots in the world.
Their popularity dates from the 1960s when the famous oceanographer Jaques Cousteau made a movie there. Clear water like the crystal has a temperature of 29 degrees celsius and is very c12alma from December to May.
CORALS AND WRECKS – THE ATTRACTION OF THE AREA
Wreckages lie at a depth of up to 15 meters.Covered by coral, they create an absolutely unique landscape. Some still have fully loaded wagons on the deck, while others have dishes and tableware used by officers.
Many wrecks have informative placards. One of the best known is Shinohana, a submarine who participated in the Pearl Harbor attack.
Chuuk Lagoon is a very original place for diving. Besides wrecks, divers can explore submerged planes, guessing if they belonged to island defenders or attackers.

DID YOU KNOW?
The island of Fefan is famous for its small sculptures in wood, the so-called „figurines of love”.
In the past, the sculptor „signs” his figurines with his own characteristic notch. During the night, she sneaked at the house of the chosen girl, made a hole in the cane wall and gently touched her with the figurine to wake her up.
The girl knew him after the notch and went out to meet. Today, these figurines are souvenirs appreciated on the island.
CHUUK LAGOON AND THE ISLANDS SURROUNDED BY THE REEF.
Chuuk lagoon is made up of almost 100 islands spread in the lagoon’s calm waters. A reef with irregular shape separates them from the Pacific.
The reef is broken by three natural entrances to the atoll, called the Nordic Passage, the North-East Passage and the Southern Passage. The entire area is 85 km long and 50 km wide, with an area of 2129 sq. Km.
It consists of 11 main islands (municipal), 46 islands inside the lagoon and 41 islands on the coral reef
